MLB Observes "Roberto Clemente Day"
This month, Major League Baseball is making a concerted effort to honor the Latino community and its culture during Hispanic Heritage month. Part of MLB's efforts during Hispanic Heritage Month involves honoring the legendary Roberto Clemente. Born in Puerto Rico, Roberto Clemente played for the Pittsburgh Pirates for the entire duration of his 18-year career. Clemente was a 15-time All-Star and 4-time batting champion (1961, 1964, 1965, and 1967). Clemente was also a 12-time Gold Glove Award Winner, winning 2 World Series (1960 and 1971) for the Pirates. Roberto Clemente would finish his career with 3,000 hits. After his unfortunate death in a cargo plane crash at the age of 38, Roberto Clemente would be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

On Thursday, September 15, 2022, the MLB observed "Roberto Clemente Day". On the day, MLB officially debuted its docuseries called "Fuera Del Ballpark." The purpose of the three-film docuseries is to tell poignant stories about how the love for baseball has resonated in the Latin American community on the field
as well as beyond the field. Many MLB teams have honored Roberto Clemente in their unique ways during Hispanic Heritage Month.For example, the Los Angeles Angels celebrated Roberto Clemente Day on Saturday, August 27 by hosting a youth baseball clinic called the Roberto Clemente clinic. Recently, the Milwaukee Brewers held the Roberto Clemente Art contest last Friday to honor the legend
and the St. Louis Cardinals will celebrate Roberto Clemente's 50th anniversary of his 3,000th hit in a game against the Pirates.
