Who's The Mystery Man In The MLB Logo?
The MLB official Batterman logo was designed by Jerry Dior in 1968. There have been speculation that the "Mystery Man" behind the MLB logo is Minnesota Twins Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew, however, this rumor hasn't been confirmed. Killebrew was convinced that the MLB logo was created after him. In his words Killebrew stated:
"He had a photograph of me in a hitting position, and he had one of those grease pencils that you see at a newspaper, and he was marking that thing up. I said, 'What are you doing with that?' and he said they were going to make a new Major League Baseball logo. I never thought any more about it. And then the logo came out and it did look like me."
The problem is that Killebrew stance wasn't unique. In fact many other MLB baseball players had a similar stance. Jerry Dior, the designer of the MLB logo stated that it was in fact not Harmon Killebrew or any other particular baseball player. The "Mystery Man" silhouette in the MLB logo is of a generic baseball player.
